Kiren Rijiju on Manipur-origin musician C. Vikram Singh’s death has highlighted concerns over a fatal late-night altercation in South Delhi. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju described the incident as “very distressing” and said that eight people allegedly involved in the confrontation have been arrested.
According to Rijiju, Singh, a 54-year-old musician from Manipur, was involved in an altercation and physical scuffle with delivery workers and dhaba employees in South Delhi. The incident later resulted in the musician’s death.
The Union Minister said he has spoken with senior police officials handling the case and stressed the need for a strong and comprehensive charge sheet to ensure that those responsible face strict punishment under the law.
Kiren Rijiju Says Eight People Have Been Arrested
Kiren Rijiju said he contacted the Inspector General of Police of the South Delhi range, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Joint Commissioner associated with the Special Police Cell dealing with matters concerning the North-East region.
According to the minister, all eight individuals allegedly involved in the incident have been arrested.
Rijiju said the police have also met members of Vikram Singh’s family following the musician’s death.
He added that arrangements have been made to transport Singh’s mortal remains to Manipur.
Police Preparing Charge Sheet
The Union Minister said police have informed him that a detailed charge sheet is expected to be filed in court within two weeks.
Rijiju emphasised that the investigation and prosecution should be thorough and that the charge sheet should be “watertight” so that the case can proceed effectively through the judicial process.
He also stressed that strict punishment should be ensured if the accused are found guilty by the court.
Dispute Reportedly Began Over Music and Noise
According to the details shared by Kiren Rijiju, the confrontation reportedly began following a dispute over music and noise late at night.
Singh allegedly got into an argument that subsequently escalated into a physical confrontation involving delivery workers and dhaba employees.
The incident took a tragic turn with the death of the 54-year-old musician.
