Georgia Godwin Inspires Australia to Historic Gold

The team of Georgia Godwin, Emily Whitehead, Ruby Pass, Breanna Scott and Kate McDonald delivered a consistent display to claim Australia's first team gold since the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The victory marked a remarkable comeback for Georgia Godwin, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in May 2024. The injury forced her to miss the Paris Olympics and raised doubts about the future of her career.

Returning to the international stage, the 28-year-old played a key role in Australia's triumph while collecting her ninth Commonwealth Games medal, surpassing Allana Slater as Australia's most decorated female Commonwealth Games gymnast.

An emotional Godwin described the achievement as the perfect ending to a challenging journey, saying her goal was to return and finish her career on her own terms while thanking her teammates, coaches, family and supporters for helping her through rehabilitation.

Australia's team maintained its composure despite a few minor mistakes, with the gymnasts supporting each other throughout the competition to secure the historic victory.

Canada claimed the silver medal with 157.300, while veteran Elsabeth Black topped the all-around qualification standings ahead of Ruby Evans (Wales) and Australia's Breanna Scott and Georgia Godwin. Black expressed pride in representing Canada once again and enjoying her third Commonwealth Games appearance while contributing to the team's podium finish.
