Cabinet Approves Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2A Airport Corridor Project Worth ₹2,169 Crore
In a significant boost to urban mobility and public transportation infrastructure in Gujarat, the Union Cabinet has approved the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase 2A, connecting Koteshwar Road to Ahmedabad Airport. The project is expected to enhance connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar while providing faster and more efficient access to the city's international airport.
Upon completion and operationalisation of Phase 2A, the combined Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail Network will expand to 77.63 kilometres, strengthening the region's mass transit system and supporting sustainable urban development.
The newly approved corridor will feature five stations:
Ashram Road
Koteshwar Prachin Mandir
Sabarmati River
Sardar Nagar
Airport
The total project cost, including Interest During Construction (IDC), has been estimated at ₹2,169.04 crore.
The airport corridor is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve last-mile connectivity, and offer seamless travel options for daily commuters, business travellers, and tourists. The expansion aligns with the government's vision of developing world-class urban transport infrastructure and promoting environmentally sustainable mobility solutions.
Officials believe the project will play a crucial role in supporting Ahmedabad's growing urban population while enhancing regional connectivity and economic development across Gujarat.
