CM Suvendu Adhikari Announces Major Development Push for Murshidabad

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday announced a series of development initiatives aimed at strengthening law and order, healthcare, border security and welfare delivery in Murshidabad, while promising rapid infrastructure growth over the coming months.

Addressing officials and residents, the Chief Minister asserted that incidents such as attacks on police stations, arson and railway vandalism would not be tolerated. He said police have been instructed to take stringent action against human trafficking in border areas to enhance women's safety.

Adhikari also directed law enforcement agencies to strengthen coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and take strict action against illegal immigration, drug trafficking, liquor smuggling and narcotics entering from Bangladesh. He praised district officials for facilitating the transfer of 338 acres of land to the BSF, describing it as a long-pending issue successfully resolved.

On healthcare, the Chief Minister announced that five senior doctors, four specialists, 20 additional hospital beds, a new cath lab and two dialysis units have been added to Murshidabad Medical College. He expressed confidence that the district would witness a "new dawn of development" within the next two to three months.

Adhikari also revealed that the state has submitted a ₹3,600 crore proposal for tackling Ganga erosion in Murshidabad and Malda, with funding to be shared equally between the Centre and the State. Additionally, ₹2,500 crore has been earmarked for a permanent erosion-control solution in Murshidabad.

Highlighting welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister said 12 lakh women have already received financial assistance under the Annapurna Yojana out of 15 lakh applicants. He further directed the administration to facilitate the return of migrant labourers to the district.

According to Adhikari, eligible marginalised families could receive ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 per month through various government welfare schemes, along with free food grains under the PM Anna Suraksha Yojana and healthcare benefits under Ayushman Bharat.

The Chief Minister also stated that Hindu refugees lodged in jail would be released in accordance with the government's policy.
