CWG 2026: Australia Dominates Again with Five Swim Golds

Australia continued its dominance in the swimming pool at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026, capturing five of the eight gold medals on offer during a thrilling second night at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

The Dolphins added nine medals overall, including two Games records, to further extend their lead at the top of the Commonwealth Games medal table.
One of the biggest stories of the evening came from Sam Williamson, who completed a remarkable comeback by winning the men's 100m breaststroke title. The Australian clocked 59.17 seconds to secure gold after battling back from a serious knee injury that kept him out of competition for 13 months.

Williamson's emotional victory was made even more special after doctors initially feared he might never return to elite swimming. Jersey's Filip Nowacki claimed silver, earning the island's first Commonwealth Games medal since 1990, while England's two-time Olympic champion Adam Ramsay-Peaty settled for bronze.

In the women's 200m freestyle, Mollie O'Callaghan continued her remarkable run by adding the Commonwealth title to her Olympic and world crowns. The Australian star, who recently revealed she had been diagnosed with spinal stress fractures and bone bruising, led from start to finish to win in 1:54.66.

Australia completed a one-two finish as Lani Pallister took silver, while New Zealand's Erika Fairweather surged past England's Freya Colbert in the closing stages to secure the bronze medal.

With another dominant performance in the pool, Australia further strengthened its position at the top of the Glasgow 2026 medal standings, underlining its status as the competition's swimming powerhouse.
