Leader of Opposition in West Bengal and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday congratulated Rathindra Bose after he was unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the 18th West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
Sharing his reaction on social media, Suvendu Adhikari expressed confidence that Rathindra Bose would conduct the proceedings of the Assembly with fairness, neutrality, and dignity while ensuring that the voice of the Opposition is respected.
“I firmly believe the discretion and democratic values of Honorable Speaker Shri Rathindra Bose will play an important role in conducting West Bengal Legislative Assembly activities fairly, neutrally and with dignity,” Adhikari stated.
The BJP leader also remarked that the Opposition’s voice should not be hindered in the Assembly, drawing a comparison with the functioning under the previous Speaker.
Rathindra Bose, the BJP MLA from Cooch Behar South, assumes the constitutional post at a politically significant time in West Bengal politics. His unanimous election is being viewed as an important development in the functioning of the state Assembly ahead of key political battles in the state.
The appointment is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining parliamentary decorum and balancing legislative discussions between the treasury and opposition benches in the 18th West Bengal Assembly.
