Jude Bellingham Inspires England's Epic Comeback vs Norway

Jude Bellingham produced a match-winning performance as England fought back from a goal down to defeat Norway 2-1 after extra time, securing a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals.

Norway stunned the Three Lions in the 36th minute when Andreas Schjelderup curled a cross-shot beyond Jordan Pickford after England failed to respond to earlier pressure from Erling Haaland.

England hit back deep into first-half stoppage time through Bellingham, who surged into the box before calmly finishing to restore parity. Harry Kane thought he had put England ahead moments later, but the strike was ruled out for offside.

Norway believed they had regained the lead before the hour mark when Torbjorn Heggem scored from a corner, only for VAR to disallow the goal after spotting a foul by Haaland on Elliot Anderson during the build-up.

The Scandinavian side continued to threaten, with Kristoffer Ajer heading against the crossbar, while England also came close through Djed Spence as the gripping quarter-final headed into extra time.

The decisive moment arrived when substitute Morgan Rogers forced a save from Orjan Nyland. The Norwegian goalkeeper spilled the effort, allowing Bellingham to react quickest and score from close range, sealing England's dramatic comeback.

The victory sends Thomas Tuchel's side into the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals, where they will face either defending champions Argentina or surprise package Switzerland at Atlanta Stadium on July 15.

Bellingham's outstanding display earned him the Player of the Match award after scoring both England goals.

Despite the result, England head coach Thomas Tuchel admitted his side fell below expectations.

"We made life very, very difficult for ourselves today. The result is fantastic – we're in the last four – but I'm not happy with the performance. We got lucky today. We need to play better. We will get better, we need to get better," Tuchel said after the match.
