Flavio Cobolli Reaches First Grand Slam Semifinal at Roland-Garros 2026, Guarantees Italian Finalist

Italian tennis star Flavio Cobolli produced the biggest win of his career to reach his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the 2026 Roland-Garros, defeating Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in a thrilling four-set quarterfinal on Wednesday.

The 10th seed battled back from a set down to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory in challenging conditions at Court Philippe-Chatrier. The match began under strong winds before the roof was closed as light rain arrived in Paris.

Cobolli showed remarkable composure after losing the opening set, steadily raising his level to overpower Auger-Aliassime and book his place in the last four of a major tournament for the first time in his career.

The victory also ensures the Italian will make his debut in the ATP Top 10 rankings.
Speaking after the match, Cobolli admitted the occasion represented the biggest opportunity of his career. The 24-year-old revealed he used a break after the first set to reset mentally before mounting his comeback.

"I felt like this was the chance of my life. I had to give everything in my match, and today I did it," Cobolli said.

With top contenders Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz no longer in the draw, the path to a maiden Grand Slam title has opened significantly. Cobolli's triumph guarantees an Italian presence in the Roland-Garros final, with compatriots Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi facing each other in the other quarterfinal.

For Auger-Aliassime, the defeat was another disappointing exit at a Grand Slam despite a strong season on the ATP Tour. The Canadian has now advanced beyond the second round in only four of his last 15 major appearances.

Cobolli's breakthrough run continues to be one of the standout stories of Roland-Garros 2026, as the young Italian moves within two victories of capturing his first Grand Slam crown.
