Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri Highlights Key Outcomes of Myanmar President’s India Visit

India has reaffirmed its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Myanmar during high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said during a special Ministry of External Affairs briefing.

Misri stated that Prime Minister Modi reiterated India's commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Both nations emphasized the importance of ensuring that their territories are not misused for activities that could threaten each other's security interests.

According to the Foreign Secretary, President Min Aung Hlaing specifically assured India that Myanmar’s territory would not be allowed to be used against India's security interests, underscoring the shared commitment to regional stability and security cooperation.

The Myanmar President's visit includes a series of high-level engagements in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to receive him later in the day. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the visiting leader, while National Security Adviser Ajit Doval held discussions with him on the previous day.

The visit highlights the growing strategic importance of India-Myanmar relations, particularly in areas such as border security, regional connectivity, economic cooperation, and stability in the Indo-Pacific and Southeast Asian region.
