Harry Kane on Erling Haaland: ‘We’re Different Strikers’
England captain Harry Kane has dismissed comparisons with Erling Haaland, saying the two are fundamentally different types of strikers despite both being among the world's most prolific goalscorers.
Asked who is the better striker, Kane described the comparison as "impossible" and instead praised the Norwegian forward for his remarkable achievements.
"That's an impossible one for me to answer. First of all, I think we are completely different players almost. I know we are both seen as strikers, but it is almost two different positions, if I'm totally honest."
Kane hailed Haaland's extraordinary goal-scoring ability, describing the Manchester City forward as a physical phenomenon.
"Erling has been incredible, his goal-scoring record. Physically, he's a machine.. His finishing is at the highest level, and obviously, his goal-scoring record speaks for itself."
The England skipper explained that while both players consistently find the net, his own game is built around greater involvement in build-up play.
"I see myself as a different player, although I score the same goals. I like to maybe touch the ball a little bit more, be involved in play a little bit more, but also can play as an out-and-out nine. I don't think it is one to compare ourselves."
Kane also expressed his admiration for Haaland's professionalism while jokingly hoping the Norwegian would have an off day in their upcoming encounter.
"I respect him a lot as a player and a fellow professional. Obviously, hoping he has a quiet day tomorrow. His overall performances over these recent years speak for themselves. He's a fantastic player."
Kane's comments underline the mutual respect shared by two of football's most feared forwards, each excelling in different ways while continuing to dominate the modern game with their remarkable goal-scoring exploits.
