Hasimara Airport Set for Civilian Flights After Suvendu Adhikari Gives Approval
In a significant development for North Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has given the green signal for land acquisition to pave the way for civilian flight operations from Hasimara Airport.
The long-pending demand for civilian air connectivity from Hasimara is now moving closer to reality. According to the proposal, the existing runway at Hasimara Air Force Station would be utilized for civilian operations on the model of Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri. A dedicated passenger terminal is also expected to be built on adjoining land to facilitate commercial flight services.
Located strategically in the heart of the Dooars region, Hasimara is situated within approximately 40 kilometers of both Alipurduar Town and the Bhutan border. The region's commercial significance is further strengthened by the presence of nearly 200 tea gardens surrounding the area.
Residents and stakeholders believe the launch of civilian flights from Hasimara could become a game-changing step for North Bengal by enhancing regional connectivity, boosting tourism, supporting tea industry logistics, and increasing trade opportunities.
The proposed development is also expected to strengthen access for travelers heading to the Dooars and neighboring Bhutan.
The project is being viewed as a major infrastructure initiative that could reshape economic and tourism prospects across North Bengal.
