India and Cyprus Elevate Bilateral Relations to Strategic Partnership After PM Modi–President Christodoulides Talks
In a major diplomatic development aimed at strengthening long-term cooperation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive discussions with President Nikos Christodoulides in New Delhi, marking a significant step in expanding India–Cyprus relations.

The high-level discussions covered a broad spectrum of strategic sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, maritime and financial connectivity, technology and innovation, mobility, education, cultural exchanges, and India–EU engagement. Both leaders also exchanged views on important regional and global developments.

A key outcome of the meeting was the decision by India and Cyprus to elevate their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership, reflecting the growing depth and trust between the two nations.

The leaders reaffirmed their strong commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism, while emphasizing the need for greater international cooperation in maintaining peace and security.

During the visit, both sides also witnessed the exchange of several agreements across important sectors, including counter-terrorism cooperation, maritime security, diplomatic training, innovation, education, and cultural collaboration.

The move is expected to open new avenues for economic growth, technological cooperation, security collaboration, and stronger diplomatic engagement between India and Cyprus.
