India Boosts LPG Output Amid West Asia Crisis, Assures Uninterrupted Fuel Supply
India has intensified efforts to ensure uninterrupted domestic fuel supplies as ongoing tensions in West Asia continue to affect energy imports. According to government officials, around 40% of crude oil imports, nearly 90% of LPG imports, and approximately 65% of natural gas imports have faced impacts due to the evolving regional situation.
Speaking on the country's preparedness, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that every effort is being made to maintain smooth domestic availability of petroleum products despite challenges arising from the global situation.
To address potential disruptions, refinery LPG production has been significantly increased and is now reaching nearly 50,000 tonnes per day. The move is expected to strengthen domestic availability and ensure a stable fuel supply network across the country.
On PNG connectivity, Sharma stated that around 7.99 lakh connections have already been gasified, while nearly 2.87 lakh additional connections are ready for gas supply as the required infrastructure has already been developed. More than 8.27 lakh customers have also registered for PNG connections.
Regarding domestic LPG cooking gas distribution, Sharma said approximately 1.72 crore cylinders have been delivered over the last four days against bookings of 1.66 crore cylinders. Around 95% of deliveries were completed through authentication systems, while distributors also operated on Sundays to ensure uninterrupted services.
The developments come as India closely monitors global energy markets and strengthens domestic supply mechanisms amid evolving geopolitical uncertainties and energy security concerns.
