India Launches First Made-in-India EXIM Shipping Container

India has achieved a significant milestone in its journey towards maritime self-reliance with the launch of its first Made-in-India EXIM shipping container, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced.

Highlighting growing global confidence in India's maritime manufacturing capabilities, Sonowal said global shipping leader Maersk has placed an order for 1,000 additional Made-in-India containers.

The Union Minister also said the Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS) aims to increase India's annual container manufacturing capacity tenfold, targeting production of up to 7.9 lakh TEUs. The initiative is expected to strengthen the country's maritime infrastructure, enhance export competitiveness, and support the vision of making India a global hub for container manufacturing.
