India-US Interim Trade Deal Talks Progress Positively, Says MEA Amid Trump Tariff Remarks
Responding to questions regarding the possible impact of recent tariff remarks by US President Donald Trump on the proposed India-US trade agreement, Ministry of
External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said negotiations between the two countries are progressing positively.
Addressing a media briefing, Jaiswal stated that a US delegation was in India from June 1 to June 4 for discussions on the proposed trade pact. He highlighted that the Ministry of Commerce had described the talks as "very positive and constructive" in its official press release.
"We hope that further discussions will take place in the coming days and that the interim trade deal currently under discussion will be finalised by both sides. Both parties are committed to completing it as soon as possible," Jaiswal said.
The MEA spokesperson also directed media and stakeholders to the Ministry of Commerce's official statement for additional details regarding the ongoing bilateral trade negotiations.
The comments come at a time when India and the United States are working to strengthen economic cooperation and expand bilateral trade, despite global trade uncertainties and evolving tariff discussions.
