India-Uzbekistan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership took centre stage during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s delegation-level talks with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent, as both countries agreed to further strengthen their longstanding bilateral relationship.

During the meeting, PM Modi expressed gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for the warm hospitality extended to him during his visit. He particularly praised the arrangements made during a dinner hosted by the Uzbek President, including cultural performances by children and the illumination of Tashkent in the colours of the Indian tricolour.

PM Modi Praises Uzbekistan’s Warm Welcome

Speaking during the delegation-level discussions, PM Modi thanked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for personally overseeing the arrangements made during the dinner.

The Prime Minister said the experience went beyond the food and hospitality, highlighting the cultural performances presented by talented Uzbek children.

According to PM Modi, the songs and dances made him feel as though India had been brought to life in Uzbekistan. He also drew a special connection with Gujarat, saying the cultural presentation reminded him of the spirit of his home state.

PM Modi further appreciated the decision to illuminate Tashkent in the colours of the Indian national flag.

He said the gesture was deeply touching and reflected the special place India occupies in the heart of the Uzbek leadership and people.

Cultural Diplomacy Strengthens India-Uzbekistan Relations

The Prime Minister’s remarks highlighted the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening relations between the two countries.

India and Uzbekistan share historical and civilisational links, with cultural exchanges forming an important component of their bilateral engagement. Events showcasing Indian culture and symbols during PM Modi’s visit added a personal dimension to the diplomatic discussions.

The welcome in Tashkent also reflected the broader emphasis placed by both sides on people-to-people connections alongside political and economic cooperation.

India and Uzbekistan Mark Key Diplomatic Milestones

PM Modi also highlighted the significance of the upcoming Independence Day of Uzbekistan.

The Prime Minister extended advance greetings to President Mirziyoyev and the people of Uzbekistan ahead of the country’s 35th anniversary of Independence Day.

He described the timing of the visit as particularly significant because India and Uzbekistan are also marking the 15th anniversary of their strategic partnership this year.

The milestone provides an opportunity for both countries to review their cooperation and identify new areas for collaboration.
