Jaishankar Welcomes UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Reviews Expanding India-UK Strategic Partnership

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar welcomed UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on her first official visit to India, underscoring the growing momentum in the India-UK relationship and describing the partnership as a “forward-looking highway of shared economic ambitions and high technology.”

Sharing details of their discussions, Jaishankar said both sides reviewed ongoing progress across a wide range of sectors, including trade, technology, supply chains, defence cooperation, climate action, education, and people-to-people ties. The talks reflected the increasing depth and breadth of engagement between the two countries under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The leaders also explored emerging opportunities for collaboration in key future-oriented sectors such as clean energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and critical minerals. These areas are expected to play a significant role in strengthening economic resilience, technological innovation, and sustainable development for both nations.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, Jaishankar and Cooper exchanged views on major global and regional developments, including the situation in Ukraine, evolving dynamics in West Asia, and strategic developments in the Indo-Pacific region.

The discussions highlighted the shared commitment of India and the United Kingdom to addressing global challenges while advancing mutual economic and strategic interests. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation in critical technologies, resilient supply chains, and sustainable growth initiatives.

Jaishankar noted that the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, guided by the Vision 2035 roadmap, continues to advance steadily, creating new opportunities for collaboration and reinforcing the strong ties between the two democracies.

The visit by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper comes at a time when India and the UK are deepening engagement across multiple sectors, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation, economic growth, and global cooperation.
