Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska continued her dream run at Roland-Garros 2026, defeating 25th seed Diana Shnaider 7-6(4), 6-4 to book a place in her first-ever Grand Slam final.

The 24-year-old left-hander has emerged as the surprise package of the tournament, extending her remarkable winning streak to nine matches in Paris after battling through three rounds of qualifying. Ranked World No.114 before the tournament, Chwalinska has now become the first qualifier to reach the Roland-Garros women's singles final in recent years.

Heading into the season's second Grand Slam, few expected the Pole to make a deep run. However, Chwalinska has produced a string of impressive performances, including victories over several higher-ranked opponents. Her latest triumph came against Shnaider, who had earlier shocked World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, making the result even more significant.

With the victory, Chwalinska is now just one win away from emulating Emma Raducanu's historic 2021 US Open triumph, when the British star became the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Awaiting her in the final is eighth seed Mirra Andreeva, who has enjoyed a breakthrough tournament of her own. The championship clash promises to be a fascinating contest between two rising stars seeking their maiden Grand Slam crown.

Chwalinska's incredible journey from qualifying rounds to the Roland-Garros final has captured the imagination of tennis fans worldwide and stands as one of the most inspiring stories of the 2026 season.
