Mamata Banerjee Says She Is “Ashamed” of Giving Poll Tickets to Suspended MLAs

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed disappointment over some party legislators, saying she felt “ashamed” for giving election tickets to MLAs who have now been suspended from the party.

Her remarks come amid growing political turbulence within the TMC following the expulsion of MLAs Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee over alleged anti-party activities. The party leadership has maintained that strict disciplinary measures are necessary to protect the organisation from internal dissent and activities considered detrimental to its interests.

Addressing the ongoing controversy, Banerjee asserted that the party's strength lies in its grassroots workers and not individual leaders. She indicated that the organisation would continue to function effectively without those who act against party interests.

The developments come at a time when the TMC is facing internal challenges, including low attendance at a recent legislators’ meeting and growing tensions following alleged attacks on senior party leaders. Several protest programmes have also been announced by the party leadership in response to the evolving political situation in West Bengal.

Political observers believe the latest disciplinary actions signal an attempt by the TMC leadership to reinforce party discipline and address internal dissent ahead of future political battles in the state.
