Mikel Arteta Explains Arsenal’s Penalty Decisions After Defeat: ‘You Have to Do It in the Moment’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta shed light on his side’s penalty-taking decisions following the match, emphasizing the pressure and responsibility that come with stepping up in crucial moments.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Arteta revealed that Arsenal had thoroughly prepared for the situation and had designated penalty takers in place.

“We have prepared and trained for this moment. Normally the penalty takers will be Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz for sure,” Arteta said.

The Arsenal boss also explained the inclusion of Eberechi Eze among the penalty options, highlighting the midfielder’s impressive record in training sessions.

“Eberechi Eze takes penalties in training and doesn’t miss any, but you have to do it in this moment,” he added.

Arteta's comments underline the unpredictable nature of high-pressure situations in football, where success in training does not always guarantee the same outcome on the biggest stage.

The Arsenal manager remained proud of his team's preparation and commitment despite the disappointing result, insisting that the squad had done everything possible to be ready for such a scenario.
