MNM Chief Kamal Haasan Supports 33% Women’s Quota, Calls for Detailed Discussion

By Editorial Team 👁 235
Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan has expressed support for the proposed Women’s Reservation Bill, while emphasizing the need for thorough debate and careful implementation. Speaking on the issue, Haasan stated that his party has consistently advocated for women’s reservation and welcomed the government’s move to introduce the bill. However, he cautioned against rushing the process, especially in the midst of an election campaign. “We have always been recommending this and we are happy that they are doing it, but this shouldn’t be sort of a lure,” he said. Haasan underlined that while he fully supports the provision of 33% reservation for women, the policy carries broader implications that must be carefully examined. He stressed that the bill should not be implemented hastily without adequate discussion among stakeholders. “We have to debate it, discuss it and then do it. As far as 33%, I am with it. I've always been and will be. But it has other ramifications. We must think about that,” he added. His remarks come amid ongoing political discussions around women’s representation in legislative bodies and the potential expansion of parliamentary seats.
