OpenAI is transforming ChatGPT for Android: New ‘Memory’ tools and full-screen redesign leaked

By Editorial Team 👁 43
Upcoming ChatGPT Android features include session resume, UI changes, and an AI-powered bio generator.

While AI chatbots are excellent at tasks like problem-solving and coding, they still miss out on certain usability features. Now, it appears OpenAI is working to improve that experience. According to a report by Android Authority, developers are testing several new features for the Android version of ChatGPT.

The report suggests that ChatGPT version 1.2026.062 includes a new capability that lets the app remember what you were doing previously. Unlike the existing Memory feature, which stores user preferences and instructions to deliver more personalised responses, this upcoming functionality will allow users to leave the app, switch to another one, or even remove ChatGPT from the recent apps list and still continue their session from where they left off.

The publication also spotted some updates to ChatGPT’s image-editing interface and sidebar design. In the profile section, two new options have appeared: “Fun fact” and “Generate bio.” While the exact purpose of the “Fun fact” feature is still unclear, the “Generate bio” option is expected to automatically create a short profile description using AI. However, both features are currently inactive and appear to still be in development.

Another noticeable change involves the sidebar interface. At present, the sidebar slides out from the left side of the screen, allowing users to keep their main conversation visible. In a future update, OpenAI may shift to a full-screen sidebar layout, potentially offering a cleaner and more focused interface.

Since these features were discovered in development builds, there is no confirmation yet on when—or if—they will appear in the stable version of the app.

Meanwhile, OpenAI recently introduced GPT-5.4, its latest large language model designed to perform more complex tasks, including interacting with computers and software. The update also reportedly fixes an issue where the chatbot occasionally responded with overly preachy disclaimers.

Over the past few weeks, ChatGPT has also remained in the spotlight for multiple reasons. The company has faced criticism over reports alleging the chatbot encouraged harmful behavior in certain cases and following its controversial contract with the US Department of War, leading to renewed scrutiny of OpenAI and its AI systems.
