In a massive administrative exercise to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of elections, the Election Commission of India has deployed over 25 lakh election officials across five States and Union Territories going to polls. According to official data, more than 17.4 crore electors are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming elections, translating to an extensive manpower deployment ratio of nearly one election official for every 70 voters. The scale of deployment underscores the Commission’s focus on efficiency, accessibility, and seamless management of the multi-phase electoral process. To further strengthen oversight and transparency, a total of 1,111 Central Observers have been appointed across 832 Assembly Constituencies. These observers will act as the “eyes and ears” of the Commission, closely monitoring the conduct of both general elections and by-elections. The Central Observers include 557 General Observers, 188 Police Observers, and 366 Expenditure Observers. Their responsibilities range from ensuring adherence to electoral norms and maintaining law and order to monitoring campaign expenditure and addressing complaints from candidates and voters. Officials confirmed that the majority of these observers have already reached their designated constituencies, enabling on-ground supervision well ahead of polling phases. The extensive deployment reflects the Election Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, while ensuring robust monitoring mechanisms across all constituencies.
