Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal met Toshiaki Nagasato, President and Representative Director of Meiji Seika Pharma Co., Ltd., during his engagements in Japan.

The meeting focused on strengthening India-Japan cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector and exploring opportunities to expand Meiji Seika Pharma’s manufacturing and research and development (R&D) footprint in India.

Goyal highlighted the significant opportunities offered by India’s growing pharmaceutical ecosystem, particularly for Japanese companies looking to scale operations and pursue long-term growth.

The discussions underscored the potential for deeper collaboration between Indian and Japanese pharmaceutical industries, with increased manufacturing capabilities, R&D partnerships and investment emerging as key areas of opportunity.

India’s pharmaceutical sector remains an important component of the country’s manufacturing and economic growth ambitions, while stronger Japanese participation could further support innovation, investment and global supply-chain integration.
