Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian distance runner Gulveer Singh for scripting history by winning the Bronze medal in the Men's 5000m event at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Sharing his message on social media, the Prime Minister praised Gulveer's outstanding achievement, describing it as a landmark moment for Indian athletics.
"History made by Gulveer Singh! He wins the Bronze Medal in the Men's 5000 m event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Congratulations to him. With this remarkable performance, he became the first Indian athlete to win two athletics medals at a single Commonwealth Games. He is also the first-ever Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the Men's 5000 m event. This is indeed a landmark achievement for Indian athletics. My best wishes to him."

Gulveer Singh secured the bronze medal in the men's 5000m final with a time of 13:24.95, producing a brilliant finishing sprint to edge Kenya's Cornelius Kemboi in a dramatic photo finish.

Earlier in Glasgow, Gulveer had already won the silver medal in the men's 10,000m, making him the first Indian athlete to win two athletics medals at a single Commonwealth Games. He also became the first Indian ever to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men's 5000m, adding another historic milestone to India's athletics legacy.

The Prime Minister's congratulatory message reflects the nation's pride in Gulveer's remarkable performance, which has emerged as one of the biggest highlights of India's athletics campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
