Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Slovakia’s rich cultural heritage after receiving a traditional bread-and-salt welcome upon his arrival in Bratislava during his historic visit to the Central European nation.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, Prime Minister Modi described the ceremonial welcome as a beautiful reflection of Slovakia’s longstanding traditions and values of goodwill and friendship.

“The welcome in Bratislava included the traditional offering of bread and salt, a beautiful reflection of Slovakia’s rich cultural heritage and the values of goodwill and friendship they cherish,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister also witnessed a captivating folk performance by Kopaničiarik, a renowned folk ensemble from Slovakia’s Myjava region. Appreciating the cultural showcase, he highlighted the importance of preserving traditional arts and customs.

“Witnessed a captivating performance by Kopaničiarik from the Myjava region of Slovakia. Folk traditions such as these help preserve one’s culture and history,” he added.

PM Modi’s visit to Slovakia is historic, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister since the country’s independence in 1993. The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen cooperation across trade, technology, innovation, education, and cultural exchanges.

The cultural welcome in Bratislava underscored the growing friendship between India and Slovakia while showcasing the significance of preserving and celebrating national heritage.
