Pranit More Says He ‘Deserves the Hate’ Over ₹370 Biryani Controversy, Seeks a Second Chance

Comedian Pranit More has publicly apologised following intense criticism over a viral crowdwork clip from one of his stand-up comedy performances. The controversy erupted after an audience member made offensive remarks about a woman during the show, while Pranit was accused of not intervening and instead laughing along with the crowd. As the incident drew widespread condemnation online and led to legal scrutiny, the comedian has now acknowledged his mistake and appealed for forgiveness.

Pranit More Issues Public Apology

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Pranit addressed the controversy and admitted that he had exercised poor judgment during the interaction. He revealed that he had intended to speak about the issue earlier but was unable to do so because his Instagram account had been suspended.

In his statement, Pranit said he understood why many people were angry and accepted responsibility for his actions. He admitted that the audience member made several derogatory comments during the crowdwork segment and that he should have stepped in immediately. However, because the crowd was laughing, he became caught up in the moment and failed to recognise the seriousness of the situation.

The comedian acknowledged that he could have stopped the conversation or taken a stronger stand at the time. Instead, he allowed the interaction to continue, which ultimately contributed to the controversy growing far beyond the comedy venue. He expressed regret for providing a platform to such remarks and apologised to anyone who felt hurt or offended.

Appeals for Another Opportunity

Pranit also requested the public to give him a second chance. He stated that the incident had become an important learning experience and promised to improve both personally and professionally.

According to the comedian, he is fully cooperating with authorities regarding the ongoing legal proceedings. He added that he intends to reflect on the criticism, work on himself, and ensure that future content demonstrates a more responsible approach.

What Is the ₹370 Biryani Controversy?

The controversy began during a stand-up show in Gurugram when audience member Himanshu Jangra shared a story from his dating life while interacting with Pranit More.

During the exchange, Himanshu claimed that after spending ₹370 on a biryani during a date, he expected something in return. Referring to the money spent, he remarked that he intended to make sure the expense was “worth it.”

The comment received loud laughter from several audience members, including Pranit. A video clip of the interaction was later posted online and quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Many viewers criticised both Himanshu and Pranit, arguing that the remarks promoted misogynistic attitudes and appeared to normalise entitlement and coercive behaviour toward women. The backlash intensified after users pointed out that Pranit had referred to the exchange as “Peak Gurgaon Content” and shared the clip on his social media accounts.

Legal Action and Official Response

Following the viral spread of the video, both Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra were booked by the Maharashtra Cyber Police on charges related to obscenity and sexual harassment.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) also summoned the duo, stating concerns that the interaction appeared to glorify non-consensual behaviour and promote sexual coercion.

Meanwhile, Himanshu reportedly lost his job after the video surfaced and attracted widespread public attention.

The incident has reignited conversations around the responsibilities of comedians, audience interactions during live performances, and the boundaries between humour and harmful behaviour.
