Liverpool claim first league win since August to fell champions and help Gunners go four points clear.

Salah scored the winning goal as Liverpool produced an excellent performance to hand Manchester City their first defeat of the season.

The Egyptian superbly controlled Alisson’s 76th-minute clearance before spinning Joao Cancelo and racing clear to finish past Ederson.

In a contest that caught fire in the second half Manchester City had several chances to score themselves and found the back of the net early in the second half, only for Phil Foden’s effort to be ruled out following a VAR review, which identified a foul by Erling Haaland on Fabinho in the build-up.
Liverpool, who became the first team in 19 Premier League fixtures to stop City from scoring, move up to eighth place in the table on 13 points, while the defending champions remain in second on 23 points.

Arsenal four points clear

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are four points clear at the top after earlier overcoming Leeds United 1-0 in a frantic match, thanks to a first-half strike from Bukayo Saka.
The encounter had to be interrupted early on and the players brought off the pitch for 36 minutes due to a power failure which affected communications with VAR.
When it did resume Leeds had several opportunities to equalise with Patrick Bamford’s second-half missed penalty the pick of them.

The drama didn’t end there, either, as in stoppage time, Gabriel was sent off following a clash with Bamford. Leeds were awarded another penalty but, this time, following a VAR review, both decisions were overturned with the defender’s card being downgraded to yellow and a free-kick awarded to Arsenal instead of a penalty against.
The Gunners are riding high on 27 points, whilst Leeds drop to 15th with nine points.

Mount at the double

Chelsea’s excellent form under Graham Potter continued as they made it three wins on the bounce thanks to a 2-0 victory at Aston Villa.
Mason Mount was the hero of the afternoon scoring twice, his second an exquisite free-kick from distance.
The result keeps the Blues in fourth place on 19 points, while Steven Gerrard’s side lie 16th with nine.

Stalemate at Old Trafford

Just beneath Chelsea in the league table, neither Manchester United or Newcastle United could get the upper hand as the match that ended goalless at Old Trafford.
The result leaves Erik ten Hag’s side in fifth on 16 points with Newcastle one place and a point further back.

Southampton end losing run

Honours were also even at St Mary’s Stadium as Southampton ended a run of four straight defeats with a 1-1 draw against West Ham United.
Romain Perraud got the hosts on their way, netting in the 20th minute, but Declan Rice responded for David Moyes’ team, with a fine curling effort from range midway through the second half.
Saints remain in the relegation zone in 18th place with eight points as West Ham move up to 12th on 11 points.
