Rahul Gandhi Says Delhi Police Must Register FIR in Pellet Gun Case
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has demanded the registration of an FIR over an alleged pellet gun incident at Connaught Place on July 20.
Speaking at Parliament Street Police Station, Gandhi claimed that an AIIMS report found more than 200 shells inside the body of the affected person, including three in the eye, which he said resulted in loss of vision. He also alleged that some shells were located near the person's heart and could not be removed.
Gandhi said Delhi Police had maintained that its personnel did not use pellet guns during the incident. He questioned who was responsible and alleged that a crime had taken place.
According to Gandhi, the family is seeking an FIR and justice. He further claimed that police officials told them they had received instructions "from the top" and therefore could not register the FIR.
"We won't budge from here until an FIR is registered," Gandhi said, while demanding accountability in the matter.
Gandhi also criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi Police, alleging that the Home Ministry and police personnel were preventing justice from being delivered to the family.
The allegations and claims made by Gandhi would need to be established through an official investigation. The demand for an FIR comes amid calls for clarity over the circumstances surrounding the alleged pellet injuries at Connaught Place.
