Rahul Gandhi’s Supreme Court Petition Faces Over 10 Registry Objections
The Supreme Court registry has flagged more than 10 defects in a petition filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders over alleged large-scale voter deletions and irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to sources, the registry asked the lawyer handling the filing on Monday to submit a clear copy of the identity card of Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, who is among the co-petitioners.
Missing Pages and Court Fee Shortfall Flagged
The registry also identified certain illegible or missing pages in the petition, sources said. In addition, it pointed out a shortfall of more than ₹200 in the court fee.
These objections concern the petition’s filing requirements. The registry’s observations do not, by themselves, determine the merits of the allegations raised in the plea.
Petition Seeks Independent Audit of SIR
Rahul Gandhi and several other opposition leaders marched to the Supreme Court on Monday to submit the petition concerning alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The plea seeks the constitution of an independent committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. The proposed committee would include technical experts and other eminent citizens.
According to the petition, the committee should conduct an independent audit within a fixed timeframe to examine deletions and modifications made during the SIR process.
The petition centres on concerns over changes to electoral rolls and calls for an independent examination of the revision process. The allegations will be subject to consideration through the appropriate legal process.
