Ritabrata Banerjee Says Majority of TMC MLAs Support New Opposition Formation

Expelled Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Ritabrata Banerjee on Wednesday asserted that more than two-thirds of the party's legislators in the 18th West Bengal Legislative Assembly have supported a new political grouping that has now been recognized as the principal opposition in the House.

Addressing the media, Banerjee said the legislators acted collectively and adhered to all constitutional and procedural norms while staking their claim.

"We do not believe in 'I'; we believe in 'we'. Whatever norms were framed, we followed every norm. That is why we have been accepted as the principal opposition in the 18th West Bengal Legislative Assembly," Banerjee stated.

The expelled MLA emphasized that the movement was not driven by individual ambition but by collective decision-making among elected representatives. He further revealed that the group wants West Bengal

Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee to serve as its chief advisor.
"We want Mamata Banerjee to be our chief advisor and provide guidance that will help strengthen our position as the opposition," he said.

Banerjee also highlighted that 80 members were elected to the Assembly on the Trinamool Congress symbol and claimed that more than two-thirds of them had backed the group's claim, which was subsequently accepted by the Assembly authorities.

The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political turmoil within the Trinamool Congress and could have major implications for the state's political landscape ahead of future electoral battles.
