Sonam Wangchuk Ends Fast, Appeals for Peace

Sonam Wangchuk announces the end of his 26-day fast in a social media post after discussions with Union Ministers and Ladakh leaders.

ActivistΒ  Sonam Wangchuk announced that he has ended his 26-day fast, sharing the update through a social media post on Friday.
Wangchuk said he broke his fast in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh, along with senior leaders of the Apex Body of Leh, Ladakh.

According to his statement, the decision followed prolonged negotiations on several conditions and came in view of concerns over possible violence in the country. He also revealed that 65 Members of Parliament from different political parties had either visited him or signed letters urging him to end the fast.

In his message, Wangchuk said he would soon release a separate video explaining the conditions that led to his decision in greater detail.

He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and ensure that no violence takes place anywhere in the country.
