Suchika Tariyal Creates History with India’s First-Ever Asian Games MMA Medal

Indian fighter Suchika Tariyal secured a historic bronze medal in the Women’s Traditional MMA 60kg event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, marking a landmark moment for Indian Mixed Martial Arts.

Tariyal’s campaign ended in the semifinals after she was defeated by Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo in a hard-fought bout. Despite the semifinal setback, reaching the last four guaranteed Tariyal a bronze medal.

The achievement is particularly significant as Mixed Martial Arts is making its official medal sport debut at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Tariyal has therefore become the first Indian athlete to win a medal in MMA at the Asian Games.
