Suvendu Adhikari Independence Day Speech at Kolkata’s Red Road on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day focused on Bengal’s nationalist heritage, development goals, and the vision of a developed India by 2047. Addressing a large gathering, the West Bengal Chief Minister paid tribute to prominent figures such as Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Maharaj Pranabananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, Matangini Hazra and Bina Das.

The Chief Minister called upon people to rise above political differences and work collectively for the progress of West Bengal, linking the state’s development with the national goal of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.

Suvendu Adhikari Recalls Bengal’s Nationalist Icons

During his address, Suvendu Adhikari said that Bengal has always been a land of nationalism and patriotism. He highlighted the contribution of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Maharaj Pranabananda in ensuring that parts of Bengal remained within India during the partition period.

He said that a developed India by 2047 would only be possible when West Bengal also progresses in areas such as employment generation, women’s empowerment, infrastructure, security and social welfare.

According to the Chief Minister, Bengal’s history is deeply connected with freedom fighters and nationalist leaders who shaped the country’s destiny. He recalled the sacrifices of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, Matangini Hazra, Bina Das and other revolutionaries.

Call to End Political Narrowness

The Chief Minister urged people to move beyond political divisions and contribute jointly to Bengal’s development.

He stated that Bengal’s identity is rooted in nationalism and that the state has produced several legendary personalities who fought for India’s freedom. He appealed to citizens to work together to build a prosperous and progressive West Bengal.

Adhikari also reiterated his commitment to the promises made during a public event held in Kolkata earlier this year in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He assured people that the government would continue working towards inclusive development across the state.

This year marked a significant change in West Bengal’s Independence Day celebrations, with a grand event organised at Kolkata’s Red Road.

The Chief Minister began the programme by paying floral tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose before hoisting the national flag.

A major attraction of the event was the ceremonial parade and presentation of tableaux depicting various government initiatives and historical figures.
