UN Chief António Guterres Condemns Israel’s Lebanon Strikes, Warns Threat to Iran-US Ceasefire

By Editorial Team 👁 27
António Guterres has strongly condemned the large-scale Israeli strikes across Lebanon on April 8, which reportedly resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties, including children. In a statement shared on social media, the United Nations chief described the attacks as deeply alarming, particularly in the context of the recently announced ceasefire between Iran and the United States. Guterres warned that the continued military escalation in Lebanon poses a serious threat to the fragile ceasefire and undermines ongoing efforts toward achieving lasting and comprehensive peace in the region. Calling for immediate de-escalation, he emphasized that hostilities must stop without delay. He also stressed the urgent need to uphold international law, highlighting that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times. Reiterating a long-standing position, the UN Secretary-General stated that attacks targeting civilians are unacceptable and underscored that there is no military solution to the conflict.
