West Bengal Government to Probe BGBS Tender Process, CM Suvendu Adhikari Promises Transparency and Accountability
The BJP government of West Bengal will probe the tender process of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) undertaken when the Trinamool Congress was in power, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Friday.
Adhikari said the BJP government would leave "no room for doubt" in examining how public funds were spent on organising the BGBD and related events.
"Every rupee of taxpayers' money must be accounted for. If there were irregularities in the tender process, they will be identified and appropriate action will be taken," he said.
The CM insisted the government's intention was not to target any particular organisation but to ensure transparency and accountability in the award of public contracts.
"We have promised zero tolerance towards corruption. Whether it concerns recruitment, procurement or event management tenders, the same standards of scrutiny will apply," he said.
Referring to the proposed white paper on the Bengal Global Business Summit, Adhikari said the people of the state had a right to know how much money was spent and what tangible benefits were generated.
"For years, investment figures were announced from the summit platform. We want to place before the public the actual picture—how much was promised, how much materialised and how public money was utilised," he said.
Adhikari daid his government is keen to attract investment while ensuring transparency in all official transactions.
"We want industries, jobs and investment in Bengal. At the same time, we want complete transparency in government expenditure. The two objectives go hand in hand," he said.
