Asaduddin Owaisi and Humayun Kabir on Wednesday jointly announced their alliance for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, outlining an ambitious plan to contest a large number of seats. The announcement came during a joint press conference held by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party. Plan to Field 182–192 Candidates Humayun Kabir said the alliance is preparing to field a significant number of candidates across the state. “Today my brother Asaduddin Owaisi is with me… Together with the general public, our party, and AIMIM, we will contest the elections in West Bengal scheduled between April 23 and April 29. We will field around 182 to 192 candidates,” he stated. He also announced that candidate names and seat allocations would be revealed shortly. “Today at 4 PM, after opening the state party office, I will announce the candidates, and Owaisi sahib will also announce the seats he will contest,” Kabir added. Seat Sharing Near Finalisation Earlier, Owaisi indicated that seat-sharing discussions between the two parties were nearly complete, with only minor issues pending. “The number of seats we will contest has almost been decided… discussions on one or two seats will be finalised soon,” Owaisi said. Focus on Minority Leadership Owaisi reiterated that the alliance aims to strengthen political representation for minority communities in West Bengal. “Our main effort in this election is that in this state a political leadership from the Muslim minority should emerge and become stronger,” he said, citing government and survey data on socio-economic indicators. Political Significance The AIMIM–Aam Janata Unnayan Party alliance is expected to reshape electoral dynamics in West Bengal, particularly in constituencies with significant minority populations. With plans to field nearly 200 candidates, the alliance is positioning itself as a notable player in the upcoming polls.
