Anna Hazare was hospitalised at Bombay Hospital in Mumbai on Monday night, August 31, 2026, after experiencing severe dehydration and a viral infection. The veteran social activist is currently stable and has been admitted to a regular ward, with doctors continuing to conduct medical investigations.

According to Dr Gautam Bhansali of Bombay Hospital, Hazare was not admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The doctor said further tests would be carried out on Tuesday to assess his condition and determine the course of treatment.

Anna Hazare’s Health Condition

Doctors said that Anna Hazare had developed severe dehydration, which initially caused difficulty in passing urine. However, his condition improved within a few hours of being admitted to the hospital after he was given fluids.

“He is stable and under investigation. He has been admitted to a ward, not in the ICU,” Dr Bhansali said,
The medical team is monitoring Hazare and conducting tests to determine the nature and extent of the viral infection.

Severe Dehydration Improved After Treatment

According to the doctor, Hazare had experienced difficulty passing urine because of severe dehydration when he arrived at the hospital.

Following the administration of fluids, his urine output improved considerably.

Dr Bhansali clarified that there was no indication that the condition was related to kidney problems.

“He had come for a regular check-up. He is under investigation. There is some viral infection. There is nothing related to kidneys,” the doctor said.

The clarification is significant as the initial difficulty in passing urine could have raised concerns about kidney-related complications. However, doctors have stated that the issue was linked to dehydration.

Viral Infection Under Investigation

The hospital has also confirmed that Anna Hazare is suffering from a viral infection. Doctors are continuing their assessment and are expected to conduct further tests to understand the infection and monitor his recovery.

At present, the activist remains stable and is receiving medical attention in the ward.

The medical team is expected to provide further updates depending on the results of the investigations and Hazare’s response to treatment.
