Anurag Thakur Calls for Early Session on Women’s Reservation Bill

BJP MP Anurag Thakur has called for Parliament to be convened at the earliest to advance the implementation of 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.

Speaking on the issue, Thakur said that an early session would help provide women across the country their “due rights” through the constitutional framework for one-third reservation in legislative bodies. He also criticised the Congress, alleging that the party and its allies had previously prevented the effective functioning of Parliament and had denied women their rights.

The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023 provides for reservation of one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. The legislation was passed by Parliament in September 2023.

Thakur also spoke about the government’s approach towards issues concerning young people. He said the government had taken youth-related concerns seriously and had adopted concrete measures to address them.

Referring to recent electoral and student-related developments, Thakur said that the BJP's ideology had received support from sections of the public and youth. He cited the BJP’s performance in Rajasthan’s local body polls and electoral developments at Delhi University and Panjab University as examples.

Thakur also referred to the role of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in student politics while arguing that the developments reflected support for the BJP and its broader ideological position.
