Casemiro, Martinelli Inspire Brazil's Stunning Fightback
Gabriel Martinelli's last-gasp goal gave Brazil a 2-1 win over Japan and booked a place in the Round of 16 of the World Cup.
It took a fantastic second-half fightback for Carlo Ancelotti's team to overcome an determined Japan side who deservedly led at half-time through Kaishu Sano's 29th minute strike.
The introduction of substitute Endrick helped to spark the five-time world champions who scored through Casemiro's header in the 56th minute followed by Martinelli's clinical strike in the fifth minute of added time as the Japan finally wilted under the pressure in Houston.
"I canβt find the words to describe the joy in my heart. Seeing all those fans on their feet, my parents, my friends... I can't explain it. After hitting the woodwork, I knew I'd get another chance. I honestly don't have the words. I'm just happy I was able to help the team, whether I'm playing on the left or through the middle. The most important thing is helping the team," Martinelli said after Brazil's win.
Brazil are aiming to win the World Cup for the record sixth time.
