The Election Commission of India has announced the deployment of over 2,000 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) across 152 constituencies for the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, scheduled to take place on April 23.
A total of 2,193 QRTs will be stationed strategically to ensure swift action in case of any unrest during polling. These teams will remain in constant coordination with control rooms, enabling rapid intervention to maintain law and order.
Special focus has been placed on sensitive districts and border areas that are prone to disturbances. Among all regions, Murshidabad will see the highest deployment with 219 teams. East Midnapore will have 253 teams, while West Midnapore will have 248 teams.
In North Bengal, Cooch Behar will have 133 teams, Jalpaiguri 83, Alipurduar 70, Darjeeling 52, Siliguri 39, and Kalimpong 17 teams.
Additionally, South Dinajpur will have 75 teams and North Dinajpur 119 teams. The Junglemahal region will remain under tight surveillance, with 180 teams in Bankura, 139 in Purulia, and 248 in West Midnapore. Birbhum will have 161 teams, while Malda will see 157 teams deployed. The industrial hub Asansol-Durgapur will have 113 teams.
The deployment aims to ensure peaceful, free, and fair polling, with authorities prepared to respond instantly to any disruptions during the voting process.
