Zubeen Garg’s Wife Garima Recalls Singer’s Fear of Time Before His Death

Nearly six months after the death of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, his wife Garima Garg has shared an emotional reflection on the singer’s state of mind in the years leading up to his passing. She revealed that in their conversations, Garg often spoke about one particular fear — time itself.

Speaking at the Panchayat Aaj Tak Assam event, Garima said the singer frequently mentioned that time was the only thing he truly feared. According to her, he seemed deeply aware of how fleeting life can be.

Garima admitted that she never fully understood why he felt this way but believes the feeling may have been linked to the personal tragedies he experienced in a short span of time.

“I don’t know why. Maybe he had a feeling from within or a kind of spiritual connection. Perhaps it was because he lost his mother, his sister, and his best friend unexpectedly. Within a short period, he lost so many people and faced several difficult incidents. It was very unfortunate for him,” she said.

Zubeen Garg died on September 19, 2025, while swimming in Singapore, where he had travelled as a cultural brand ambassador for the North East India Festival.

While Singapore authorities initially ruled out any foul play, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later stated that the singer’s death was not accidental but a case of “plain and simple” murder.

Following the controversy, the Assam government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

A case was registered under several sections, including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and causing death by negligence. Later, murder charges were also added as investigators continued to examine the case.
