Haaland Brace Sends Norway Into World Cup Last 32
Erling Haaland delivered another world-class performance as Norway secured qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Senegal at New York/New Jersey Stadium.
The Manchester City striker continued his remarkable scoring streak, netting twice to take his tally to four goals in just two World Cup matches and 59 goals in 52 appearances for Norway.
Norway broke the deadlock shortly before halftime when Marcus Holmgren Pedersen capitalized on a defensive mistake by Kalidou Koulibaly and fired home in the 43rd minute.
Just three minutes into the second half, Haaland doubled Norway's advantage after latching onto a perfectly weighted pass from Martin Odegaard and calmly finishing. The goal extended his impressive run of scoring in 12 consecutive competitive matches for his national team.
Senegal responded through Ismaila Sarr in the 53rd minute, but Haaland restored Norway's two-goal cushion five minutes later with a close-range finish to make it 3-1.
Sarr struck again deep into stoppage time to set up a tense finale, but Norway held firm to claim the crucial victory and seal their place in the knockout stage with a game to spare.
Haaland's latest heroics also keep him firmly in contention for the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot, alongside fellow stars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.
