Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian Urges Dialogue with Americans Amid Escalating Tensions

In an unprecedented move, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has penned an open letter to the American public, urging dialogue amid escalating tensions between the two nations. Published Wednesday via Press TV, Pezeshkian described Iran’s missile responses since late February as measured self-defense against U.S. and Israeli airstrikes targeting nuclear sites, missile facilities, and Iranian leadership. The Iranian president cited past U.S. interventions, including the 1953 coup and the 2015 nuclear deal withdrawal, as reasons for broken trust between the nations. He also disputed casualty figures, contrasting Iran’s reports of over 2,000 civilian deaths with significantly lower figures provided by the U.S. The letter was released just hours ahead of President Trump’s 9 p.m. ET address on the ongoing five-week conflict, which has disrupted oil shipping, damaged critical infrastructure on both sides, and driven global energy prices higher. Experts say Pezeshkian’s call for dialogue reflects Tehran’s attempt to open backchannels, even as the standoff continues to impact global markets and regional security.
