Mamata Banerjee Challenges Authorities, Says TMC Protest Will Go On Regardless

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday adopted a defiant stance against restrictions imposed on the party's planned protest programme, declaring that the demonstration scheduled for June 2 would go ahead regardless of police permission.

Addressing party workers and supporters, Banerjee said, “Arrest me if you want. The TMC will hold its protest on June 2 even without police permission, microphones or a stage. If we are not allowed to protest in Kolkata, we will protest in Delhi.”

Her remarks come amid growing political tensions in West Bengal, with the TMC accusing authorities of attempting to curb democratic rights and political expression. Banerjee asserted that peaceful protest is a constitutional right and vowed that the party would continue its movement despite administrative hurdles.

The statement has intensified the political confrontation between the ruling Trinamool Congress and its opponents, with the protest expected to draw significant public and media attention. Political observers believe the development could further escalate the ongoing battle over governance, law and order, and democratic freedoms in the state.

The June 2 demonstration is likely to become a major political event, with TMC leaders mobilising supporters across West Bengal while keeping the option open for a larger protest in the national capital if restrictions continue.
