Union Minister Piyush Goyal addresses a gathering welcoming a Japanese delegation and highlights India-Japan friendship and partnership.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal highlighted the depth of India’s friendship and strategic partnership with Japan, describing the country as one of India’s closest partners in the shared pursuit of peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

Addressing a gathering welcoming a Japanese delegation, Goyal said India and Japan share a relationship with significant institutional depth and a strong foundation of mutual respect.

“It is indeed a great honour to welcome our friends from Japan this evening,” Goyal said, praising Japan for its culture of excellence and harmony.

Goyal also used the symbolism of tea to describe the cultural connection between the two countries. He noted that while ancient India shared chai with the world, Japan transformed its tea tradition into sadou, the Japanese tea ceremony, where every encounter is valued and every moment is treasured.

The Union Minister said such cultural connections reflect the broader India-Japan relationship, which extends beyond diplomacy into economic cooperation, technology, investment, skills and people-to-people ties.

His remarks come as India and Japan look to deepen their strategic and economic partnership in the Indo-Pacific, with greater cooperation in areas that can contribute to peace, progress and shared prosperity.
