PM Anthony Albanese Highlights Cricket, Trade and Culture in India-Australia Ties

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has reaffirmed the growing strength of Australia-India relations, calling his visits to India among the “great honours” of his tenure and expressing excitement about hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Australia once again.

Speaking about the expanding strategic partnership between the two nations, Albanese highlighted India’s rising global influence and its importance to the Indo-Pacific region.

“One of my great honours has been my two visits so far to India as PM... Likewise, I will have the privilege of hosting PM Modi here soon, a privilege I look forward to repeating for the second time,” Albanese said.

The Australian Prime Minister emphasized that India’s rapid economic growth and demographic strength present “an extraordinary opportunity” for Australia and the wider region.

“India has the largest population in the world. But it will also grow to be the third-largest economy over this decade,” he noted.

Albanese also underlined the strategic importance of both nations being connected through the Indian Ocean and Pacific regions, while praising the progress made under the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA).

The Australian leader further pointed to the cultural and people-to-people ties that continue to strengthen bilateral relations, including education, trade, and cricket.

“We are further drawn together through culture, education and the international language of Cricket,” he added.

He also acknowledged the significant contribution of the Indian-Australian community, describing PM Modi’s upcoming visit as an event that would be made “extraordinary” by the million-strong diaspora community in Australia.

The remarks come amid growing cooperation between India and Australia across trade, defence, technology, education, and regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
