PM Modi Calls for Global Framework to Fight Cyber Fraud
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for a global framework to combat cyber fraud and deepfakes, warning that digital threats have crossed national borders and require coordinated action among countries and key stakeholders.
Inaugurating the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, Modi said governments, technology companies, telecom operators and financial institutions must work together to develop effective mechanisms to prevent digital fraud before it reaches citizens.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister urged the GSMA and telecom operators worldwide to collaborate on creating a global mechanism to stop cyber fraud. He said India has gained valuable experience in tackling such threats and is ready to share its learnings with other countries.
Modi emphasised that technology can achieve scale only when it enjoys people's trust. He highlighted the increasingly borderless nature of cybercrime, noting that an individual in one country, working with someone in another country, can commit a crime in a third country.
The Prime Minister also identified deepfakes as a major emerging challenge, underlining the need for stronger international cooperation, technological safeguards and greater awareness to protect citizens in the digital era.
