PM Modi Pays Tribute to Bengal’s Heritage on West Bengal Day

Modi Highlights Bengal’s Legacy on West Bengal Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that observing West Bengal Day is not merely about commemorating a date but about honoring the state's rich history and centuries-old cultural heritage.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of educating younger generations about the significance of the day and the historical events that shaped Bengal’s future.

Modi recalled the turbulent period before Independence when efforts were being made to include the entire Bengal region in Pakistan. He said that while several political forces had accepted the proposal, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee strongly opposed the move and raised his voice to protect Bengal’s identity and future.

According to the Prime Minister, Dr. Mookerjee’s efforts ensured that West Bengal remained an integral part of India. He added that the same spirit of courage, unity, and commitment that safeguarded Bengal during that crucial period is essential for the state's progress and development today.

The Prime Minister described West Bengal as a land of immense cultural, intellectual, and spiritual heritage, emphasizing that preserving and celebrating its legacy is a collective responsibility for future generations.
