Preeti Pawar Wins Gold in Women's 54kg at CWG 2026

Indian boxer Preeti Pawar delivered a commanding performance to win the Women's 54kg (bantamweight) Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, defeating Canada's Scarlett Savannah Delgado by a 5-0 unanimous decision at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Hall 5.

The emphatic victory handed India its first boxing gold medal of the Glasgow Games and further strengthened the nation's impressive campaign in the boxing competition.

Tactical Brilliance in the Gold Medal Bout

The 22-year-old southpaw from Bhiwani, Haryana, controlled the contest from the opening bell with exceptional footwork, precise counter-attacks and disciplined ring management.

In the opening round, Preeti dominated with sharp left jabs and effective body combinations that kept Delgado on the defensive, earning unanimous support from all five judges.

She extended her advantage in the second round by landing a powerful combination that resulted in a standing knockdown, firmly establishing her control over the bout.

Despite Delgado's late attempts to fight back in the final round, Preeti remained composed, using smart defensive movement and accurate counters to secure a flawless 30-27 scoreline on every judge's scorecard.

Flawless Campaign in Glasgow

Preeti remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, winning every bout by unanimous decision without conceding a single round.

Her campaign included:
Quarterfinal: Victory by Unanimous Decision
Semifinal: Defeated Catherine Mwape (Zambia) 5-0
Final: Defeated Scarlett Savannah Delgado (Canada) 5-0

Remarkable 2026 Season

The Commonwealth Games gold adds another major achievement to an outstanding year for Preeti Pawar. The Asian Games bronze medallist had already captured titles at the World Boxing Cup and the Asian Boxing Championships earlier in 2026.

Her latest triumph also boosts India's gold medal tally on Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games, underlining the country's growing dominance in international amateur boxing.
